Actors Kate Phillips, Amber Anderson and Rosie Day have joined forces to launch a new female-led, London-based production outfit called Just John Films.

Just John will option, develop and produce projects, both independently and in partnership with third parties. The company’s artist-led viewpoint will give it a unique eye to focus on diverse and compelling stories while ensuring a welcoming and joyful environment to enhance creativity and quality throughout the filmmaking process.

The company has already set its first slate, which includes an adaptation of Annie Garthwaite’s acclaimed historical novel “Cecily,” about royal Tudor matriarch Cecily Neville, and an untitled Sylvia Plath project in collaboration with Silver Salt Films. More projects will be unveiled in due course.

Phillips is an actor and producer who’s appeared in “Hijack,” “Peaky Blinders” and “The Crown” among other titles. She is currently reprising her role as Jane Seymour in the final adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s “Wolf Hall” trilogy “The Mirror and the Light.”

Anderson is an actor and musician known for her work in “Peaky Blinders,” “Black Mirror” and “Strike: The Cuckoo’s Calling.” She has also appeared in films including “The Souvenir Pt. II” and will next be seen in Jaclyn Bethany’s “Tell That To the Winter Sea.”

Day is an award-winning actor, playwright and filmmaker whose one-woman show “Instructions for a Teenage Armageddon” is set to transfer to the West End this spring. She has also appeared in “Outlander,” “The Sandman” and “Good Omens” and is poised to make her directorial debut in the near future.

“I feel so passionate about this new venture and the stories we’re so keen to tell,” said Phillips. “We’re already off to a very exciting start and I’m so looking forward to where this journey will take us.”

Anderson said: “I’m thrilled to be working with these two fantastic women on this very exciting venture. There’s nothing more joyful than working with friends, and I can’t wait to bring brilliant groups of talented people together, while making meaningful and thought provoking work.”

Female-centric tales have weaved their way through my work and I’m so excited to be developing liked minded projects with two brilliant women.”
